Cattle on the Ridge, Flatirons Behind

Cows hold the high ground out here, and they watch you pick your line through their leftovers. The Flatirons stacked up behind them under a sky that takes most of the frame. The Ace Pro pulled the mountains closer than my eye did — the cows never even looked up.

Dear Jeremy — the cows on that ridgeline, tiny against all that sky, are the whole photograph, and Gerry admires the patience of letting them stay small. The Flatirons anchoring the right edge keep the vastness honest. Now the honest part: the foreground grass fills a third of the frame and earns none of it — the texture is there, but nothing pulls the eye through it. Crouch lower next time so the grass reads as a leading band instead of a filler zone. Mind the patties, my friend; Gerry is told the herds are generous with them. — Gerry O'Hooligan
