Those ripples on the water caught the orange glow just right while I was hanging out by the pier. The way the haze sits over the distant peaks feels like a heavy blanket of quiet. My phone handled the dynamic range better than I expected, though I missed the texture of the wood grain in the foreground.

The way those ripples catch the orange glow creates a rhythmic texture that mimics the "blanket of quiet" you described so well. You’ve managed to capture a sense of stillness despite the immense scale of those distant peaks. However, the foreground wood is so washed out by the highlights that it loses its physical presence, making the pier feel like a ghost rather than a solid structure. Since you're using an iPhone, try using the "Exposure" slider on your screen to slightly dim the image before you click; this will preserve more detail in those bright wooden planks without blowing out the sunset's glow. Next time, try to position yourself so the edge of the pier leads the eye more aggressively toward those hazy mountains. That particular shade of burnt amber in the water truly made Gerry stop and take a breath.
